As part of the parallel programmes of the 60th Venice Biennale, Bosnian-Herzegovinian artist Jusuf Hadžifejzović presented his performance and artistic project The Store of Emptiness on April 19, 2024, at Spacio Punch in Venice. The programme was organized in collaboration with Nine Dragon Heads, an international art association from Korea that has been continuously present within the Biennale’s parallel programmes for many years.
As part of the “Nomadic Party” programme, a screening of the documentary film Posljednja YU dokumenta (The Last YU Documents) by Jasmin Duraković was also held. The film explores the legendary “YU Dokumenta” exhibitions organized during the 1980s at Collegium Artisticum and Skenderija in Sarajevo, which represented one of the most important contemporary art events in former Yugoslavia.
Alongside Hadžifejzović, other artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina participating in the Biennale’s parallel programmes included Šejla Kamerić, Safet Zec, and posthumously Gordana Anđelić Galić.
The official representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina at this year’s Biennale was Museum of Modern Art of the University of Mostar with the project Measure of the Sea.
This archival entry by CKA Charlama documents the continuity of the presence of Bosnian-Herzegovinian artists on the international contemporary art scene, as well as the long-standing connection between the Sarajevo art scene, the YU Dokumenta project, and contemporary European artistic platforms.
