Vanja Pagar
Vanja Pagar (born in 1969 in Split, Croatia) is a visual artist whose practice encompasses painting, performance, installation, video, and multimedia art. He graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1992. Throughout his artistic career, he has developed an interdisciplinary approach that explores the relationships between image, space, language, and contemporary visual culture.
His work is characterized by experimentation, playfulness, process-oriented methods, and a continuous questioning of the boundaries between artistic media. Through painting, performance, and spatial interventions, he investigates everyday life, social phenomena, urban environments, and mechanisms of perception, often employing humor, irony, and participatory elements.
Pagar has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and internationally, participating in projects and exhibitions across Europe and beyond. He is a member of the Croatian Association of Visual Artists (HDLU) and the Croatian Freelance Artists’ Association (HZSU). He lives and works in Split.
Through his ongoing exploration of diverse artistic forms, Vanja Pagar has developed a distinctive artistic language that combines painting, performative practice, and critical reflection on contemporary social and cultural realities.
