Šejla Kamerić
Šejla Kamerić (born in 1976 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) is a contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses film, photography, drawing, installation, and multimedia projects. Through her work, she explores themes of identity, memory, migration, social relations, and the legacy of war. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo in 2000.
Kamerić gained international recognition with her acclaimed work Bosnian Girl (2003), which has become a seminal artwork of post-war Bosnian and Herzegovinian contemporary art. Drawing on personal experience, her work addresses broader questions of gender, social stereotypes, collective memory, and political structures of power.
Her works have been exhibited in major museums, galleries, and international exhibitions worldwide, including presentations in London, Berlin, New York, Paris, Madrid, Vienna, and Tokyo, as well as at numerous biennials and contemporary art festivals. She is the recipient of several international awards and grants, and her works are included in important public and private collections around the world.
Through a multidisciplinary approach and a strong artistic engagement, Šejla Kamerić has developed a body of work that critically examines the relationship between personal and collective history, establishing her as a significant voice in contemporary international art.
