Ismet Jonuzi
Ismet Jonuzi (Rahovica, Kosovo, 1961) is one of the most prominent contemporary Kosovan artists and a professor of sculpture. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Pristina in 1983, studying under Professor Agim Çavdarbaša. He further developed his artistic practice through international residency programs at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (1987) and with a scholarship from the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Germany (1997).
His artistic practice encompasses sculpture, installation, drawing, assemblage, and conceptual art. He is particularly recognized for works created by transforming discarded weapons from the Kosovo War into powerful sculptural forms that explore memory, trauma, violence, and the possibilities of social renewal.
Jonuzi has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions across Europe, Australia, Asia, and Latin America, including participation in the Venice Biennale and the Cuenca Biennial. He is the recipient of numerous international awards, including the Muslim Mulliqi Award, the Grand Prix International Drawing Competition Melbourne, and Best in Show, Art Revolution Taipei. Since 1995, he has taught at the University of Pristina, where he serves as Professor of Sculpture. He lives and works in Pristina.
