Alma Gačanin

ALMA GAČANIN (Sarajevo) is a visual artist, poet, and feminist. Her artistic practice encompasses drawing, performance, photography, and video. Her work is grounded in the exploration of labor conditions and the precarity of specific professions, with a particular focus on the position of women within capitalism and the gendered division of labor.

Through her practice, she establishes connections between artistic work and the jobs that secure everyday existence, drawing on her own experience as an artist-worker. To support this interdisciplinary approach, she has completed professional training in several industries.

In 2024, she received support from the Global Fund for Women in recognition of her commitment to feminism and her contribution to gender equality in the arts. She is also the recipient of the ZVONO Award (2022), the most prestigious award for emerging contemporary artists in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Gačanin holds a Master's degree in Art Education from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Sarajevo, where she graduated from the Teacher Education Department. She is a member of CRVENA, an association for culture and art. In addition to her visual art practice, she writes poetry and regularly publishes in literary journals, anthologies, and online platforms across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region.
